The puck has dropped, the line-ups are set, and the first week of the new FHL season is in the books! With everyone rolling out their initial rosters, Gameweek 1 was all about early selection gambles and who came out of the blocks fastest.
Leaders of the Pack
It’s Jay Laight’s “Laight Again” who sets the early pace, storming to the top with a huge 414.1 points. Jay’s squad came flying out of the gate, showing that his draft night prep has already paid off. Hot on his heels is Ben Chappell’s “Orange Juus” with 405.7 points, while John Stuart’s “Stuart’s Selections” rounds out the early podium on 390.6.
The chasing pack isn’t far behind though – Jo Goacher-Curtis’ “Pour Some Sauce On Me” (389.2) and Joe Cook’s “Jooky Time” (386.8) make it five teams over the 385 mark in week one.
Player Performances – Early Heroes
Gameweek 1 saw some massive player scores, with a few early-season heroes emerging:
- Alessio Luciani lit it up with 54 points, thanks to 3 goals, 2 shorthanded tallies, and a game-winning strike.
- Brandon Estes (53 points) was the standout among defencemen, combining goals, assists, and a GWG.
- Josh Winquist (46), Hampus Olsson (43), and JJ Piccinich (43) were also among the top scorers.
- Between the pipes, Shane Owen posted a shutout, racking up 40.8 points – an early reminder of how important goaltending can be in this league.
Early Selection Trends
Unsurprisingly, the most popular pick across the league is Colton Saucerman, selected by a massive 177 teams. Jason Grande (92) and Alessio Luciani (82) also featured heavily in initial squads. The big question for the coming weeks: will the “template” selections continue to deliver, or will managers who went against the grain get rewarded?
The Long Game
It’s only week one, but patterns are already emerging. The early leaders have made their mark, but with trades still to come and players finding form, we can expect swings in the standings. The middle of the pack is tightly bunched – just 20 points separated 10th from 20th – meaning a single hot week from a star player could shake things up.
What’s Next
From next week, we’ll add week-to-week comparisons, spotlight biggest risers and fallers, and track manager of the month contenders. Once trades open, we’ll also highlight the shrewdest (and boldest) moves that made an impact.
